Sweden's EMIL Spec
Education Information Markup Language: a metadata model for education information developed in Sweden over the last 4 years, building on work done by the Agency for Higher Education, which has been running a service called studera.nu (study.now in English): www.studera.nu - click on the big red Sök. Each institution for higher education provides standardised information that is collected daily by a robot and stored centrally. The information is used by studera.nu and also by other (more specialised) services run by other agencies and organisations. EMIL represents the next step and will be used by the Agency for Services to Universities and University Colleges (who have taken over responsibility for higher education) and by the Agency for Schools, for all other education opportunities in Sweden.
One interesting extension represented by the Agency for Services is the ambition to use this information as one part of a much broader service concept which includes admission, documentation etc.
