- IMS have released the public draft of their new General Web Sevices specification. The spec uses a profile of WS-I but narrows things down further in terms of messaging and error handling.

- Representatives from JISC, DEST and others have met in Melbourne to discuss the next stage of development for the e-Learning framework.

WS-Reliable Messaging initiative to go to OASIS
- With a call for participation, the first step has been taken for the widely used WS Reliable Messaging (WS-RM) spec to be developed further in OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards). WS-RM has been developed so far by Microsoft, IBM and others, but not their main competitors, and also not as an open standard. Moving it to the OASIS non-profit standards organisation could change that.

TALL study in ELF Project Directory

JISC/CETIS Conference: e-framework, Priorities and Challenges for 2006

- The JISC / CETIS Conference is an invitation-only conference to be held in Edinburgh on 15th-16th November, which will bring together a group of invited experts in IT infrastructure in education and provide an opportunity to take stock, and collectively influence the JISC and CETIS agenda's for the coming year in the context of the e-Framework for Education and Research initiative. This conference concentrates on the e-learning aspects of the e-framework. Outcomes of the conference will be disseminated to a wider audience than can be gathered in the Edinburgh Conference Centre via the conference website.

- This workshop introduces participants in the e-Learning Framework projects and the broader JISC community to the tools developed by the TELCERT project. These tools exploit the IMS Application Profiling Guidelines which offer the prospect of refining (i.e. profiling) a variety of e-Learning technology specifications so as to better meet the needs of a target community, without breaking underlying interoperability.

- The Developers Forum provides a practical opportunity for e-learning software developers from both commercial and from the academic / oss communities to learn about and implement e-learning standards and specifications. The first ELF Developers Forum will take place at Oxford University (OUCS) on Monday March 14th alongside the CETIS Enterprise SIG. The themes of this session will include enabling existing applications with IMS enterprise web services, building on previous JISC funded toolkits.
